Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella has called for careful development of advanced artificial intelligence, stressing that powerful systems must remain under human supervision. According to Anadolu Ajansı, he shared his views on X on Sunday, arguing that AI development should serve humanity and remain controllable.
Nadella endorsed a gradual approach to improving AI alignment and proposed placing evaluators within research laboratories to monitor systems. He urged industry participants to turn safety principles into practical procedures.
He also argued that AI governance should include representatives from different countries, sectors and academic institutions, rather than being dominated by a small number of organizations. He said both proprietary and open-source models have a role in a healthy AI ecosystem.
Nadella further emphasized that businesses should retain control over their specialized knowledge and model weights, enabling them to develop and operate their own AI systems without depending on a single provider.
Microsoft plans to publish a code of conduct for public consultation on Monday, covering its internally developed Microsoft AI models. The announcement comes amid broader industry discussions about safety oversight, following proposals from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and support for laboratory-based independent reviews from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
