Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has outlined a vision for making personal superintelligent AI available to a broad public. In a 14-page letter, he argued that distributing the technology widely could create economic opportunities and prevent excessive power from accumulating among governments and large organizations, according to Fox Business.
Zuckerberg said AI should help people develop new ideas and strengthen individual capabilities rather than focus solely on automating work. He also called for cooperation between leading AI developers and government officials to address potential risks.
Meta plans to resume releasing some open-source AI models. The company has introduced Muse Glimmer, a model with 30 billion parameters designed to operate on a laptop or a single consumer graphics processing unit. Meta also plans to release the model weights for a version of Muse Spark 1.2 in the coming weeks.
The company additionally announced a $1 billion Future Is for Everyone Fund. It will support U.S. communities where Meta operates data centers, with investments and programs developed around local priorities.
Zuckerberg said these efforts should help ensure that people and local communities share in the benefits of AI development and the infrastructure supporting it.
