The US Department of Justice has announced a task force dedicated to Super Intelligence. In a press release dated November 5, 2026, the Department said the DOJ-SITF will work to ensure that America's leadership in SI is not compromised by its misuse.
The Department said it intends to be "a leader in safeguarding against malicious SI actors".
Who it targets
The press release names three groups:
- Foreign state and state-sponsored actors.
- Transnational criminal organizations.
- Individual or corporate actors engaged in fraud or other unlawful conduct.
"The Department of Justice will continue identifying and prosecuting individuals whose use of SI violates the law, including by maliciously targeting American taxpayers, critical U.S. infrastructure, or other aspects of our national security."
— Attorney General Todd Blanche
Link to the SI Force
Blanche said the task force will facilitate the Department's partnership with Jay Clayton, chair of the SI Force, as it works to ensure critical SI technologies "serve the American people" and are not manipulated by bad actors at home or abroad.
What the leaders say it will do
Woodward said the "comprehensive effort will promote innovation and prevent the misuse of Super Intelligence".
Weiss said the Department has a responsibility to use its law enforcement tools to deter improper use of SI, "harden regular reporting on SI risk and response", and ensure that companies "exercise vigorous internal controls so that SI technology behaves as intended".
Why it matters
A federal law enforcement agency now has a dedicated unit with Super Intelligence in its name, and its leaders tie the label to prosecutions and to companies' internal controls. The press release also points to a memorandum on the task force, which is the next document to read for how DOJ-SITF will operate.
